ABOUT ME

Hi and welcome!

My name is Victoria and I am a Toronto based yoga student and instructor who has been practicing yoga for over 8 years.

I particularly enjoy teaching yoga in settings outside of the studio, and this seems to be something that I’ve organically fallen into. Since completing my 200 hour teacher training in 2022, I’ve had the privilege to guide classes in spaces such as ESL classrooms, theatres, parks, and more. There’s something beautiful about experiencing yoga in everyday spaces that also serve other purposes. To me, it’s analagous to integrating yoga into your everyday life off the mat.  I also believe encountering yoga in non-conventional environments can be more welcoming and accessible for many folks, both financially and psychologically.

I aim to bring an ethic of care and student autonomy in my classes which incorporate the physical with breathwork, meditation and yoga nidra (aka yogic sleep --ask me more if you’re curious!) My classes are all-levels and beginner friendly, with an emphasis on breath awareness and cultivating mental calm.

I’ve also worked for over a decade as a stage manager in theatre –it’s a pretty cool “day” job and I spend a lot of time backstage or on tour. In my down time, I love doing pole as a hobby, coffee shop and beach hopping, dim sum with friends, and looking up my next yoga retreat adventure abroad.

Focus on how it feels, not how it looks

MY VALUES & CURIOSITIES

CARE: Yoga offers a system of care for our body, mind and spirit. While a lot of modern day yoga emphasises the physical poses, it’s the integration of breath awareness and mindfulness that distinguishes it from exercise or stretching. The “work out” becomes a gateway to the “work in”. Through this holistic lens, yoga helps cultivate our relationship to ourselves and others, offering both self care and community care.

> AUTONOMY: While I act as a guide when teaching, it’s important to me that students always feel autonomy and choice over their own practice.  My goal is to empower you to tune into and discern your own needs in each moment, making your yoga practice your own. I facilitate this by modeling options and modifications, and offering prompts to tune into your own sensations and subjective experience. Remember, everything I say is a suggestion, and optional!

PLAY: Can yoga be a form of play that allows us to try things without judgment or expectations? When we let go of having to be “good” at something and approach things with curiosity and humour, we can find joy and progress in each of our personal journeys without fixating on a specific outcome.

REST: Yoga is not only about action, but also stillness (in body, and mind). Rest is essential to recovery, healing, and integration of learnings.  My classes incorporate elements of yoga nidra (yogic sleep/deep rest) to explore letting go of performance and productivity, and remember our inherent worth in simply Being.
